

Some of her recent films wherein she has done playback singing include Ashiqui 2, Bhagh Milkha Baggh, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Barfi, Bodyguard, etc.

Her song Bairi Piya is considered to be among the biggest hits of 2000’s, giving her recognition in the industry. She sung five songs from the movie including Dola Re Dola, Chalak Chalak, Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka, etc.

According to Bhansali, her voice was perfect for the character of Paro in Devdas. Sanjay Leela Bhansali first recognized her in one of the special episode of Sa Re Ga Ma and gave her the chance to sing in Devdas. Her first recorded album was Bendhechhi Beena, which was enrolled way back in 1998, with 14 different tracks, however, her Bollywood career started with Devdas. During her childhood, she participated in different cultural programs wherein she bagged different prizes as well. Since then she has started her career in singing, which led to take admission in SIES College at Sion Bombay wherein she did her graduation in English literature. She then enrolled in science stream in BARC, Ghosal and then headed to Bombay with her family. She did her schooling from Atomic Energy Central School, Rawatbhata wherein she lived for 13 years since her father was an electrical engineer who got transferred at other places leading to the shifting of the family. She was even featured in Forbes magazine in the list of the 100 top celebrities in India followed by other singers and musicians including AR Rahman and Mohit Chauhan. Since then she was awarded at different places including getting an honour from US State of Ohio wherein 26 th June has been declared as Sherya Ghosal Day by the governor Ted Strickland. Her first song she recorded was for the movie Devdas, which even gave her the National Film Award under the best female playback singer for her singing.

As far as her career is concerned, she started with a reality show called Sa Re Ga Ma wherein she won the title, giving her inroads to Bollywood.
